Rolfing® Structural Integration & Rolf Movement®
Rolfing® SI and Rolf Movement® are not massage.
A Rolfer’s™ view of the human body and human being is very different from the commonly held views in massage, medicine, science, education, fitness, and nutrition.
While commonly held views are about fixing symptoms, Rolfers™ know that symptoms are signals in a disorganized/misaligned structural system. Rolfing® SI and Rolf Movement® are a change process that lets your body reorganize how it is organized. Rolfers™ know that as the whole system changes and aligns with itself and with gravity, symptoms dissolve, we move better, and feel more capable.
Rolfing® works because your physical body is part of a dynamic, interdependent structural system that includes all of who you are (physical, mental, emotional, and spirit). Your body is not an adversary that is refusing to help you resolve what bugs you. It is actually doing the best it can to keep you going while working hard to compensate for disorganization. [See the first video, a simple demo, at the bottom of FAQ page.] You already know that you are bigger than just your physical body. You prove this to yourself each time another person gets too close and you feel anxious or step back and each time someone comes up behind you and you know they are there even though you didn't see them.
Rolfing® SI and Rolf Movement® literally let the physical body change how it is balanced, organized, aligned, and integrated with itself and with gravity so you feel better and it can: feel more unified; recover more fully from old accidents, injuries, and trauma; function better; move better; and have fewer chronic aches and pains. Bodies that are balanced and aligned feel more right; everything working together and functioning easier. Bodies look thinner; feel younger; are more flexible; move more fluidly; feel lighter, more grounded, centered, unified; and know how to effortlessly sit, stand, and walk for you. There’s more too. When bodies are better organized with gravity, the mind is calmer and emotions feel more balanced.
When clients complete their Rolfing® process (usually 12-15 sessions), they don’t usually feel the need for a tune-up session for 3-8 years. When you feel the need for a tune-up, it usually takes only one to three sessions to bring things back in line.
Rolfing® works at this complex, dynamic, interdependent system level.
As clients become more familiar with this work, many say the Rolfing® points of view sound so unusual at first but, then, make total sense. They experience the truth of it in their bodies. Then nagging discomforts (which had only moderately improved with other approaches) now find a way to resolve.
With Rolfing®, you will find your body making changes, and feeling better, in ways you didn’t think possible. Then, every-day activities reinforce and sustain those changes.
